Hi Chrissie, I've been twice but both times were with an organised coach tour. They will only take you to where it's safe and you would have some company too. YES I'VE CHANGED, PAIN DOES THAT TO PEOPLE.

Hi there,
I spend a lot of time in Paris and I reckon it's safer than London for a woman walking around on her own. Obviously you have to be sensible like in any other city, so don't flash cash around, wear expensive jewellery (chance would be a fine thing!) and take a sensible handbag. The centre of Paris is much smaller than London so you can see quite a lot in a small area, and sticking to the central districts is ok. The only problem is that though the metro is much shallower than the tube, there are fewer escalators so you do have to manage short flights of steps in & out.
The french seem to be less aware of disability issues, but if you make an effort to learn a few phrases of french you'll probably find that most people are reasonably helpful. A lot of people do speak some english, even if the normal parisian attitude can come across as a bit stuck up. But it's a lovely city, and lots of good things to see and do. Eurostar is easy, and brings you right into the centre.

Hello Chrissie
Yes I have been to Paris we went on the Eurostar and Hotel deal, which was a lovely Hotel. Easy to get around . I did go with mhy Husband but thought it seemed certainly safer I thought than probably London.
As stated though dont flash money or wear expensive jewellery and always have your hand bag over your shoulder so the bag is protected by you on your chest.
Enjoy if you go.

Hi Chrissie, I too think Paris is safer than London. There are obvious spots to avoid - the area around Gare du Nord is definitely seedy, but Central Paris should be fine. Metro stations are a bit difficult - very few have escalators, and sometimes it`s a bit of a hike if you have to change lines. The city is quite compact, and always seems to have plenty of space. A walking stick is usually treated with respect in taxi queues or Metros, and there is a very good hop on/hop off sightseeing bus which allows you to see the sights. A river cruise is a good idea, as you can sight-see from the comfort of the boat, which you can get at the bridges. Enjoy - I love Paris. Kathleen C x

Hi Chrissie I've never been on my own but found it ok generally. I always take the usual precautions wheih thers have suggested in any city I visit. We found the metro system easy to use for gettig around. I've also found amsterdam to be a lovely, friendy and safe place- just keep out of the red light distict afer dark enjoy! Maria

Bonjour Paris, I was in Paris just before Christmas and got stuck there because of the snow in Heathrow. What a fantastic place to get stuck, fortunatly French is my first language ! Oh la la! I think the best way to visit Paris is by using the bus service. The buses are reliable and once in the bus, they have board indicating the stops. Get a Map of Paris and step in and out of the buses. It's cheap and a wonderful way of visiting Paris. You can often see women sitting on their own in cafes, drinking a coffee or a glass of wine, people watching or reading a book. It doesn't matter if you are on your own. The Parisians are quite chilled out people and they don't mind if you're sitting on your own. It's a normal overthere. Hope you make it there. Iwish I could fit into your luggage! Let me know how you get on. Linda x
